You might think salt is too drying for your skin, but sea salt is actually great for your body and it can balance, protect and restore the skin if used properly. Sea salt contains minerals such as magnesium, calcium, sodium and potassium. Sea salt can actually improve hydration and balance of your skin and protect the barrier of your skin. Here are some recipes you can whip up in your kitchen with sea salt to heal and make your skin beautiful.
- Make a balancing and relaxing face mask. Mix two teaspoons of finely ground sea salt and four teaspoons of raw honey to create a paste. Apply evenly to your skin when it is clean and dry and avoid your eyes. Let sit for 10-15 minutes and then lay a warm, wet washcloth on your face for 30 seconds then rinse off. This will calm breakouts and irritation and balance oil production in your face. It is a great monthly mask to try.
- Use sea salt as a toner to zap oil. Sea salt will cleanse your pores deeply and balance oil production. Simply mix one teaspoon sea salt and four ounces of warm water. Put in a small spray bottle until salt dissolves then mist on dry skin, avoiding your eyes. You can use once or twice a day.
- Make a softening body scrub. Salt is a great natural exfoliant. Use a quarter-cup sea salt and half-cup of olive oil or coconut oil and add essential oils if you’d like. Apply anywhere on your body and gently scrub your skin in a circular motion for the best benefits.
- Or make a rejuvenating body scrub. Mix a half-cup sea salt, quarter-cup pure aloe vera juice or gel and a quarter-cup of oil (can be olive, coconut, whatever you want), one tablespoon dried lavender flowers and 10 drops of lavender essential oil. It should form a thick paste. You can also apply all over in the shower, scrubbing the skin in a circular motion.
- Try a relaxing salt bath to release toxins and dirt. Add one-third cup of sea salt to a tub filled with warm water and swish around to dissolve the salt. Soak for 15 to 30 minutes for the best benefits. It should reduce bloating if you have it and hydrate your skin nicely. Follow up with lotion on damp skin for the best benefits.
